UID authority or the Unique Identification Authority is developed by the Indian Planning Commission in order to provide unique identity to every resident of India all over the country. The UID authority has come into being in order to offer welfare services to the people of India. All the government policies, schemes and programs are going to be monitored by the UID authority and thus even the weaker section of the society can take advantage from the same.
Mission of UID authority
The main mission of the authority is to issue Aadhaar numbers to all the residents of India in order to help them in verification and avoid fake identity issues, especially online.
It should be noted that Aadhaar numbers are by choice and it is not compulsory for any resident to have them.
Collaboration of UID Authority and Govt. Of India
There has been collaboration between UID authority and Govt. of India. In fact, UID authority of India has been an attachment to the Indian Planning Commission. The UID authority of India is responsible for legal, technical and institutional infrastructural implementations and in its development. Together UID authority and Govt. of India are issuing Aadhaar numbers to the residents of India.
It has been mentioned in the Aadhaar official website that the UID authority has collaborated with all the public sectors and government sectors along with the private sectors in order to aid the residents of india. Thus, now the telecom industry, the banking sector, the infrastructure sector etc will not bother the residents by asking them with different documents to prove their identity if the residents offer these companies with their Aadhaar numbers. Further information about this is mentioned in the Aadhaar official website.
As on 25 June 2009, the UID authority and Govt. of India appointed Mr. Nandan Nilekani for the position of Chairperson of UID authority of India. Moreover, for the post of Director General, UID authority and Govt. of India had Mr Ram Sewak. The posts and other officers of UID authority of India are mentioned in the Aadhaar official website.
