Introduction

UIDAI stands for Unique Identification Authority of India. The UIDAI has been an initiative of the Planning Commission of India and has been designed to offer UID card to all the residents of India.

On Dec 06 2006, with the consent of Prime Minister of India, Unique Identification Authority of India came into being. The Planning Commission and Chairperson of UIDAI monitor every UID project.

Mission and Vision of UIDAI and lying out UID project

The main aim of UIDAI is to conceive such UID project that will help every resident of the country to have his own identity. This will save them from false identity and would help them prove their identity online as well.

Thus, the UID project aim at social welfare of all the statures of society so that they could enjoy all the advantages and benefits offered by the government of India.

Another UID project was to ensure that even the marginal and weak sections of society get their identity proof, which is otherwise very difficult to have.

What is a UID number?

The UID number is a 12- digit number assigned irrespective of caste, religion, creed, region and is issued randomly.

The UID number plays a vital role in helping an individual prove his identity without offering numerous documents like driving license, bank details, ration card, etc. It is mentioned in the UID project details also. You can use your UID number for e-banking and other online transactions as well. The UIDAI has collaborated with the private sector, public sector and the government sector industries and hence you can use your UID number anywhere now.

Issuing UID card

UID card is also known as the Aadhaar Card. According to the UID project details, UID card is issued to every resident of India, though it is not compulsory to have UID card. All you need is to fill a form, which is provided online and with the enrolment camps. These camps will also provide you with UID project details. You need to provide your fingerprint copy, IRIS and photographs for the records as well.
